Stage2 presents

Romeo & Juliet

by William Shakespeare

Wed 20th – Sat 23rd April 2011 at 7.30pm in Main House
Matinee: Sat 23rd April at 2pm

After their hugely successful Shakespearian comedies…

'Surely Twelfth Night as never seen before! A superb production - Stage2 has done it again!'
Behind the Arras (Twelfth Night 2009)

'For 25 years I have somehow resisted the temptation to call this dynamic young group brilliant. This time I realised it was time to give up the struggle - the funniest Dream I have ever seen.' Birmingham Mail (A Midsummer Night's Dream 2009)

'I am unfailingly amazed at the wealth of talent. Mastery of the script is universal. It's a joy of ingenuity.' Evening Mail (Much Ado About Nothing 2007)

….Stage2 now take on the challenge of Romeo and Juliet. The tale of the 'star-cross'd' lovers is arguably Shakespeare's best known and most imitated story with its feuding families, forbidden love and tragic consequences.

You may know the play, the ballet, the musical (West Side Story), some of the famous lines, but you don't know how evil we will make Capulet and how 'most unlike in dignity' the households will be, or how much impact will be created by a cast of over 100 young people performing this powerful tale! As usual our version will be extremely accessible to those less familiar with Shakespeare, whilst still giving aficionados and those studying the text things to debate and discuss. Please note that although there are some lighter scenes and beautiful moments, the play will be hard-hitting and very bold.

'Stage2 is neither timid nor juvenile.' Metro
'Not Youth Theatre as you know it.' UK Theatre Web
