The Birmingham Repertory Theatre presents

Sleeping Beauty

From 23rd November 2011 to 14th January 2012 in The Main House

[image]In a strange and magical land, far far away the King and Queen are granted one special wish for a new baby daughter by Fairy Goody. Goody means well but things don't go quite to plan and when the Royal couple turn her away from the new Princess Beauty's naming ceremony, the Fairy casts a fateful spell on Beauty that will see her fall asleep for one hundred years.

Struggling to right the wrong she has done, we follow Goody on her fairytale adventure as she awakens Sleeping Beauty from her spell with a kiss from the dashing and handsome Prince and they all live happily ever after… or do they?

The trouble being that Sleeping Beauty's new mother-in-law is a fearsome man-eating Ogress after Beauty's babies, Goody's wings have fallen off because of her bad deed and all the fairytale creatures have to put up with some interesting side effects from the force of her magic that result in some rather smelly spells!

Told from the point of view of the mischievous old Fairy who casts the spell in the first place, this weirdly wonderful, musical version of Sleeping Beauty has laughs aplenty and enough grisly and gruesome characters to keep all of the family entertained.

Behind The Arras

"All in all this is a superb show. It is full of laugh-out-loud moments and the sinister parts are enough to keep youngsters gripped without scaring them too much. Highly recommended."
Express And Star

"A funny, enchanting and thoroughly entertaining evening. Sleeping Beauty is a cracking alternative to the usual Christmas pantomime."

The Public Reviews

"Farting fairies, belching ogres, inadequate princes and some unfortunate pets who come to a sticky end. Fun for everyone, except perhaps die-hard vegetarians."
The Guardian

"It seems almost unfair to single out any of the actors for praise, since all performances are stand-outs."
Birmingham Post

"This is an enjoyable, strange and surprising retelling of the familiar story, deliciously gruesome"
