[image]Billy Liar was written as a novel in 1959 and later adapted into a stage play, film, musical and TV series; such was the inspiration of its central character.

It is a serio-comic tale about William Fisher, a 19 year old working class lad who lives with his parents in the fictional town of Stradhoughton in Yorkshire. Bored by his job as a lowly clerk with an undertaker, Billy spends his time indulging in fantasies and dreams of life in the big city and being a script writer.

Billy Liar endures as an historically and socially perceptive piece that captures the strange period between the end of post-war austerity and the start of the 'swinging' 60s and its eponymous hedonism, where the young longed to be free of convention.

This production is presented in association with Samuel French Limited
