To mark the 85th anniversary of The Crescent’s origins, we present Noel Coward’s 1924 play The Vortex. The play, which was was the twenties equivalent of the 21st Century 'in-yer-face' theatre, still packs a punch 85 years on.
Described as his darkest play, Coward himself took the role of Nicky in the original production and firmly established his credentials as both actor and dramatist.
The play starts as frothy comedy, but gradually becomes darker as the vortex of beastliness is revealed and the cracks in the family open wide.
