It’s not easy lighting a cigarette these days.

We are delighted to present Max Frisch’s modern classic from 1958 in a new translation, which premiered at The Royal Court in 2007. A parable about accommodating the very thing that will destroy you, The Arsonists is a comic play with a serious message. Biedermann – successful business man and loving husband – has life under control, or so he thinks. Despite fires becoming something of a problem he is happy to give shelter to strangers and he’ll even help them to store petrol in his attic. An explosive conclusion seems guaranteed.

By arrangement with Samuel French Ltd
