Shakespeare Youth Festival
3rd - 4th March 2008 at 7.15pm and 8.15pm
Dress Matinees: at 2.00pm
Directed, produced and performed by some of the UK’s most exciting new young talent, every night of the Shakespeare Youth Festival brings you two young local theatre companies presenting their own unique interpretations of Shakespeare. Expect romance, blood, lust and laughs all in one evening.
‘I think this work is absolutely on the button! It allows young people to work together and to experiment with their emotions, exploring something which is out of their normal cultural medium. I can think of no other agenda which has so many spin offs as doing a youth production of Shakespeare.’ Jeremy Irons
Following hard on the success of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, the UK's largest youth drama festival, the Shakespeare Youth Festival is available to all 16 - 21 year olds across the UK. It gives young people the opportunity to set-up and run their own theatre company with complete creative ownership, performing a 45 minute abridged Shakespeare play on a professional stage. Each company receives a youth director’s day with the MAP Consortium, and mentoring and workshops from The Crescent Theatre. Please visit www.syf.uk.com for more information and to see youth company listings.
Alternatively, details of participating companies and the plays chosen can be obtained from the Box Office.
