Gelede Dance in association with the Crescent Theatre present
Snake in the Geisha Palm
23rd November 2007 at 7.30pm in The Main House
Choreographed by Menelva Harry, Snake in the Geisha Palm is a collaboration between dance, film, music and visual design.
The elegance of the Japanese courtesan combines with the explosive energy of martial arts to create a whirlwind of high-energy dance. The piece is inspired by Japanese and Eastern imagery, which influences its striking visual world and vibrant costumes. This exciting and complex choreography encompasses many traditional forms such as Bagua and Drunken Boxing martials arts, incorporating martial arts weaponry with African rhythms.
The compelling soundtrack by Alonso Mendoza features traditional Japanese rhythms in a modern context. For further information, reviews, interviews, etc. visit our new website: www.gelededance.co.uk
