THE CRESCENT YOUTH THEATRE PRESENTS, in the Ron Barber Studio

GEORGE ORWELL'S

1984 logo

Adapted and directed by Andrew Cowie.

A country at war with an unidentifiable enemy.
A population under constant surveillance.
TV and radio full of pop music and soaps.

We will reshape your mind; make you one of us. You will be
incapable of joy, friendship, curiosity, courage or integrity.
All you will know or feel is love for Big Brother.

George Orwell wrote his classic novel in 1948 when the political map of post-war Europe was being re-drawn by superpowers with vastly differing ideologies. Nearly sixty years later the Cold War is over but many of his predictions are still uncomfortably close to home.

1984 is a fast-moving piece of theatre seamlessly combining music, movement and dialogue. It follows recent innovative Crescent Youth Theatre productions including Dance Marathon and Millennophobia.
